gardening stools for seniors to sit on
When I started looking at the gardening stools for seniors the number of stools to sit on was something that was overwhelming and surprised me. It was a lot of reading and product comparison to find the best garden seat for seniors.

Two types of Gardening stools for seniors

The two types of gardening stools we found are:

  • Gardening stools to sit on
  • Gardening stools with wheels

Although the stools with wheels are of course also to sit on, people look at it as a different gardening chair. After reading I guess the stool to sit is more used for weeding and the stool with wheels more on a walking path to do gardening. the wheels might not roll too well in the middle of a flower bed.

We like to give you three options for each of the types the gardening chairs we found. We tried to find the ones with the highest customer ratings and that also can be used by people who are disabled.

Gardening Stools To Sit On

One of the most used types of garden stools for seniors is the one that is also called a gardening chair for the elderly. Most of them can be used in two ways.
The first one is to site on and if you turn it upside down you can use it to work on your knees without having your knees in the dirt or the grass.
We found what we think are the three best garden seats in this category and had a good look at them.

Ohuhu Garden kneeler with tool pouches

garden stool kneelerThis Garden kneeler can be used in 2 ways.

It can be used as a garden kneeler and garden chair.

I found over 900 reviews and the average rating was 4.6 stars out of 5 to give. That is a pretty good score.

The size of this garden stool is:

  • Height 22.8 inches
  • Width 19.2 inches
  • Depth 11.02 inches

One of the things I read in the reviews is that some people also used it for inside work and although made in China it is very sturdy.

It comes fully assembled and all you have to do is open the legs and it is ready for us. There were many users that liked the thickness of the pad and mentioned that it was easy on their knees. The pad is about an inch thick and also nice to sit on.
The total weight is 5.75 Lbs.

My Rating: 4.6

Extra Wide Garden Kneeler from Gardener’s supply

deep seat extra wide garden kneeler and seatThis one is one of the extra-wide garden kneelers for senior citizens from the Gardener’s supply company. It comes in two colors. Purple and Black.

The measurements are:

  • 24 inch wide
  • 19.5 inch high
  • 9.5 inch deep

The cushion is 8.5 inches wide and 3/4 inches thick and made from foam.

When used as a kneeler the sides are sturdy enough to support you when you like to get up. With the sides folding it easy to store and carry. The total weight is 9 Lbs.

Just like the other ones it comes fully assembled and since it is a folding garden stool it is easy to store without using up to much space.
This garden stool for seniors is also made in China but many reviewers mention it is very sturdy and of good quality.

Simplay3 Garden Seat

3 level; garden seat

This home and garden seat can be used in 3 ways and each option offers a different height.

Here are the 3 options to use this Simplay3 garden seat

  • 9 inch
  • 12 inch
  • 15 inch

The total weight is 4 pounds and that was a surprise for me taking into consideration the shape and size of this garden stool.
This one can also easily used indoors and with the molded handles to carry it you can basically take it anywhere.

Available in the colors:

  • Gray
  • Light green
  • Tan

This means there is always one to fit your decorum indoors and outdoors.
Only thing is that this one can not be used for kneeling too well. Unless you like to kneel at 9-inch height.

Gardening Stools With Wheels

gardening stool with wheels
Garden stools with wheels are the second option we look at to make the life of a senior gardener easier. They are also called rolling garden seats, garden seats with wheels, and some people who used them called them the best garden seat for the elderly, but this is, of course, a personal opinion.

I have again gathered three of the highest-rated garden stools with wheels for you to choose from, but there are many more choices available.

Step2 Garden Hopper

step2 garden hopper
This is, in my opinion, the simplest, but because of that easiest to use rolling garden seat.

It comes with built-in storage under the seat and the wheels are 7 inches tall and this is large enough to roll even on grass.
Except for using it on pea gravel, it rolls easily on most surfaces.

The dimension of the Step2 rolling garden seat are:

  • 12.5 inches hight
  • 23 inches wide
  • 13 inches deep

The total weight is 9 lbs.

It comes fully assembles and it can hold up to 250 lbs.

My Rating: 4.5

After reading some of the over 1100 reviews I found that some people miss the option to pull it like a wagon, but most people love it and say it made their gardening a lot easier.

Suncast Garden Scooter

suncast gds200d garden scooter
What I like almost the best about this rolling garden seat is that you can remove the foam cushion and use is a kneeling pad. The features include 2 drink holders and a small bin that you can store inside the Suncast scooter.
The pull strap makes it very easy to take this cart anywhere you need it.

The dimensions of the Suncast garden scooter are:

  • 12.25 inches wide
  • 22.4 inches long
  • 13 inches high

The total weight is 8.9 lbs

This rolling garden seat is available in; Tan, Green, Orange, and Blue tan.

Let have a look at what we found in the over 500 reviews we found.
When left out in the rain the inside does not get wet. (I like that idea!)
It is fairly easy to pull in grass but in muddy dirt, it rolls not that easy, but in my opinion, nothing does.

It comes fully assembled except for the strap that you can find inside the cart and is easy to attach. With the hinged lid in the open position, you can move larger items without any problem and someone mentioned that the hinged lid can be removed if you take out the pins that hold it together.

My Rating: 4.3

Sunnydaze Rolling Garden Cart

sunnydaze garden cart rolling scooter
Besides being a great garden seat this Sunnydaze will also keep your children or grandchildren busy I think.

This is a little different garden cart. It comes with a lot of options that you maybe do not need. Let have a look at the features of the Sunnydaze rolling scooter:

  • 40 inches long
  • 18 inches wide
  • 16.5 – 22 inches high

Total weight 32 lbs.
Available in Green, Blue, and Red

A nice feature is the seat height that is adjustable from 16.5 to 22 inches and the fact that you can swivel the seat 260 degrees.

The combination of large pneumatic wheels and all the other features makes this a great garden seat cart.

Assembly had to be done with hex with the exception of the seat. For that, you need a regular Philips.

There are a few complaints about the quality and parts missing when it got delivered. Overall I think this rolling cart does not get the highest ratings because of parts missing in the package and some parts bent easy.

My Rating: 4.1

More About Gardening Seats

A gardeners seat or chair offers a lot of mobility for not just senior citizens but also for people with a disability.
Carrying all the tools you need around the garden can be pretty hard. A gardening stool can make it a lot easier to do and many of them come with pouches to hold the tools you need that day or for that part of the yard.

I don’t know about you but I am not too crazy about weeding. My knees starting to hurt after a while and my pants always get very dirty.
A simple garden or weeding seat makes this less hard to do.

it is up to you if you like to use a garden seat with or without wheels. I looked at what we think are the best gardening stools for seniors. I wrote more tips in our garden category for you.

  1. I am looking for a gardening stool with three legs, our ground is sloping therefore anything with wheels would take off and the kneel/sit on ones are too unstable.

    1. Mrs. V A Snow,
First of all excuses for my late response. The message came in my junk email.
This is something that is not easy to find.
However, I did a search on Amazon and found a whole set of 3 legged seats that might help you.
Here is the link to that page https://amzn.to/3dFmMuE.
Let me know if this helped. Maybe it will help other readers.
Have a great day and stay safe!

    1. Carleen,
Most of them can be purchased on Amazon or even in Lowes or Home Depot.
I personally do not sell them.
      Have a great day!

  2. Wayne F Kelley

I am 80. Can’t bend over or squat. Not sure what would be best for me. I think I can get down on knees BUT would not be able to stand back up without lots of support. Do not have raised garden so need to be low to the ground. I have been looking at all options on internet and am totally confused by claims. Is there anything that would allow me to plant and work plants by sitting and the have something that I would be able to use to pull myself back up to standing? Not sure if kneeling is an option. Major Osteoarthritis in back and legs. Thanks

    1. Wayne,
I suggest contacting your primary physician and he can refer you to a physical therapist.
They have all kinds of information and can advise on these types of products.
Sorry, my knowledge is too limited to give you any advice.

  3. Wayne F kelley

I can’t bend over nor squat since major back issues for 80 yr old. I do not have any raised gardens so I need something that would allow me to sit as comfortable as possible and be able to plant veggies in ground. The kneelers won’t work for me. Can you recommend something that I could sit on and be able to bend over as little as possible and work plants in ground? Thanks

    1. Wayne,
That is a hard to answer question.
I am only 66 but am 6’8″ and it is hard for me to bend over.
I suggest to have a look at one of the garden seats with wheels.
Maybe that will make it easier on you?
Let us know and maybe we can help some other people.

  4. They need to create a lightweight hydraulic gardening seat that adjusts level on uneven landscape surfaces…..

  5. None of the above are of any use with knee problems.
I want a seat that will raise and lower me.
    I can’t kneel.
They have seats for the bath so why not the same in the garden.

  6. Debra Eliadis

The Garden Hopper and Garden Scooter are very sturdy and roll nicely, but as a senior I need something to hold on to to give myself a boost (these are very low). Had to give mine to my daughter to use.

  7. Ingrid von Thaden

I am looking for a rolling garden cart that has a locking mechanism to makethe cart stationary so the transfer fromsitting to standing is safer. Thank you, Ingrid von Thaden

    1. Ingrid,
I wish I could help you. I have been looking for them and can not find them.
I don’t understand why some manufacturer does not fix that problem since many people are looking for that feature.
I will keep trying to find them and if I do I let you know.
      Eddie
